Library

In our clinic, we have a section housing children’s books. We called it the Sungai Long Community Library.

The library was the brainchild of a benevolent Mr Thang, a child educator, who has a strong passion to promote and improve reading in the community. He noted that children’s books are often left unused after the kids have outgrown them and can best be shared with other kids in the community. In this way, parents are able to get a bigger pool of children’s books for their kids and at the same time share what their kids have outgrown with others.

To achieve this end, we were able to provide a small space for the library. Books in the library are contributed by parents who shared the same ideal and passion for reading.

Anyone can become a member of the library.

If you have books that your children have outgrown, why not donate them to our library so that other kids can benefit from them too?

How the Library works

To borrow books from the library, you have to become a member. Membership fee is only RM15 per annum, with an initial deposit of RM20, which is refundable.

As this is a community library and we do not have the funds or the personnel to man the library, borrowing is done on a self-service basis, with the trust that members will show a good example to their children by remembering to record and return the books borrowed.

From time to time, we do get volunteers who come in to tidy up the recording of books, re-arranging the books and adding new collection of books to the library. This community library cannot succeed without the selfless dedication of these volunteers.

We would like to thank everyone who has contributed in cash and kind to this library.
